Description: Map. Copper plate engraving with original hand outline color. Image measures 18 3/8" x 12 7/8".

Comments: This hard-to-find map of Columbia County on the Hudson is an updated edition of Burr's 1829 map, featuring ample new information about the county's development. The map denotes townships, towns, major routes, waterways and topographical details with delicate and unusual hachure marks. Included is a separate page with statistical information and a historical description of the county. In excellent condition with light staining to upper right margin. David H. Burr (1803-1875) served as Topographer to the United States Post Office and Geographer to the House of Representatives and was widely known for his accuracy and attention to detail. This atlas was among the first to map each of the United States individually. Please visit our Gallery for more Burr New York county maps.
