Description: Frontispiece, title, and 3 page introduction followed by 56 single-sided pages, with text pages facing the illustrations so there are back-to-back blanks throughout. 16mo, light brown cloth-backed glazed pictorial boards (ghost of some red pencil scribbles on front cover; several pages with soft or slightly bent corners and one tear in margin of text page but otherwise quite clean and solid; un-printed spine has been neatly hand lettered). New York: Frederick A. Stokes, no date, [1900]. First printing of the first American edition. Very good.

Comments: Very scarce in any condition, this is a rather nice copy complete with all 27 illustrations. First published in London by Grant Richards who apparently did not properly compensate the author when sales were surprisingly strong. They transferred the American rights to Stokes, but because Bannerman felt mis-treated she refused permission to print in the States and thus all early American printings lack copyright information. This version has all points of the true first American: size and color of the cloth spine along with illustrations on both covers with lettering in the the same shade of pale blue as Sambo's shorts. -- Pictus Orbis Sambo 116-18.

Dear Argosy. THANK YOU very very much. I ordered the book "A Case of Removal of the Lower Jaw, for Osteo-Sarcoma of Immense Size" by George C. Blackman. I was pleased beyond words just to think that I was getting an original copy of a book that my great great grandfather wrote. When it arrived it was an even bigger treasure for me, as his own handwriting was in the upp right corner of the cover, giving the book to a fellow colleague. Thanks again so very much for helping me bring my ancestry searching a little closer and more personal. - S.B. Pratt
