Comments: From the library of United States Senator Rufus Choate with his ownership signature, dated 1832. There are pencil marks in the margins and some slight underlining, by Rufus Choate, to the Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation, and the United States Constitution. Rufus Choate was a prominent lawyer from Boston. In 1830, he was elected to the United States House of Representatives from Massachusetts. In 1840, he was appointed to fill the unexpired Senate term of his political ally Daniel Webster, who had resigned the Senate to become Secretary of State.
