Typed letter, signed "Bill" to Alfred Kreymborg

New York: 1947.

Three 4to pages, stapled, on The Saturday Review of Literature letterhead, with numerous holograph corrections and a 7 line autograph post-script. New York, February 15, 1947.

Benet apologizes profusely and at length for having to drop a poem by Kreymborg because of its length. The "Exec" had told him " to reduce the amount of space to the minimum because of the rising paper and printing costs that are just about squeezing the life out of small publishers... This was the first intimation I had had that I was not to have most of an issue for the Poetry Number......I'm in a hell of jam....". A good letter, highlighting the state of poetry in the post-World War II years.
