Description: Original poster. Lithograph. 30 x 20.25 inches.

Comments: This graphic Liberty Bond poster shows an American soldier about to bayonet a German soldier in a trench. Rendered in black and white and in a style imitating an artist's sketch, this poster suggests to the civilian viewer that their effort in buying bonds at home is of equal importance to those of the troops fighting at the front. This poster is rare among WWI posters for its explicit depiction of the violence of war. Robert Gair was a printer and paper bag maker based in Brooklyn, NY. He is best known for inventing corrugated cardboard and the folding carton. Driven by these successes, his rapidly growing company constructed a number of buildings the area of New York now known as DUMBO. During the war, Gair put his creative talents to use by designing posters such as this, an example of which is in the MOMA's collection. Very good condition.

Dear Sir, For three days I received Reynard the Fox (goethe, Arnold). The package was in good order and the book in perfect health. It fits very well my Reynard (and fable) collection. Thanks. - Wim G.
