Description: 1 page, 11 x 8.25 inches, on ornate personal colorized "Defiance Tires and Tubes" letterhead, depicting a touring car (with passengers) circling the globe, Stockton, California, April 19, 1919. Intriguing letter written by Frank Justin, a part-time inventor who had successfully filed a patent for a piano stool in 1869 through the assistance of Scientific American Magazine, sending an unsolicited letter to the American Aeronautic Association, asking for assistance in filing a patent, in full: "Gentleman, I am taking the privilege to ask advice on Patents - to apply on Flying Machines as your mind is devoted to. I have a Patent which will control Death. It can be demonstrated close to the ground as well as high up in the sky with perfect safety - and so plain and simple that you will see. Will like to hear from you in regard to perfect action in getting this Patent. Yours truly, F. Justin." Natural folds; small paper remnant in the upper left corner; small chip on the lower right corner -- a visually stunning item in very good(-) condition.

Comments: It is unclear what Frank Justin invented, but since he was involved in the sale of automotive merchandise, it is quite possible he was referring to an early prototype seat belt -- a much needed safety device applicable for both cars and aircraft in 1919.
