Description: 5.25 x 8 inches on hand-made paper, State of Georgia, Louisville, 1790, by his Excellency James Jackson. In part: "...With confidence in your patriotism, valour and conduct...appoint you...formed for the Defense of this State and for repelling every hostile invasion thereof..." This rare document, from what would have been Jackson's term had he accepted the Governorship of Georgia in 1788, is evenly toned and in very good condition. Chipping along the extreme left margin does not detract.

Comments: Revolutionary War hero from Georgia, who distinguished himself at Savannah and Cowens, rising to the rank of General. In 1788 he refused his election as Governor of Georgia on the grounds that he was too young. He died at age 48.
