Comments: Fantastic early set of views and a map relating to Virginia and John Smith. This is the early 19th century reproduction of the original print published by James Reeve and engraved by Robert Vaughan of 1624. The map of the Chesapeake Bay is based on John Smith's own surveys. The surrounding five scenes illustrate John Smith's experiences with the Natives while settling Jamestown. These views, when first published in the early 17th century, were instrumental in describing the Chesapeake area Natives' ceremonies and lifestyle to Europe. Minor overall offsetting, a few small chips and tears to edges. Wear to original folds. Early repairs to verso.
