Comments: Fantastic copy of an iconic map of the Americas in beautiful original color. Shows North and South America with place names and geographical elements in outstanding detail. Features many decorative ships and sea monsters and two vignettes within Brazil. Two insets show the polar regions. This is the second state of this map, separately issued and published circa 1629. A few scattered spots of foxing. Full original margins with gold edges on exceptionally thick paper. Jodocus Hondius (1563-1612) was a prolific 17th century Dutch mapmaker who purchased Mercator's plates in 1604.
