Description: 2 pages on light blue monogrammed stationery, no place, September 27, 1974. Written to Herbert Mayes, former editor of "McCall's" Magazine, discussing the cultural political crisis in America, in part, "...Ford and Kissinger are both on the decline. The Washington Post put the contract out on Ford for the pardon, and Kissinger for bringing down Allende in Chile...and stopping the Israeli war when they were on their way to Cairo...surely it will be one of the greatest ironies...if the U.S. goes into final decline (and slides into Dictatorship) because it insisted on exporting Democracy...we did export billions of industrial equipment with the delusion that any country who wanted to produce...would naturally become a Democracy. The USSR industrialized very well without Democracy..." Natural folds and a small crease; paperclip impression and tiny chips in the upper left corner. Signed "Clare" and in very good(-) condition.
