Description: A unique book, circa 1785. 116 pages, 8 x 6.5 inches, bound in well-worn vellum (first signature re-attached). Entirely handwritten in the excellent decorative penmanship of the time. The book consists of six sections, each a mathematical lesson (Profit and Loss; Fellowship with Time; Alligation Medial; Position; Double Position; Exchange). For each lesson there are difficult word problems followed by the involved mathematics required to solve the problem, along with the final answer. Very good condition considering its age.

Comments: "A gentleman going into a garden meets with some ladies and says to them, 'Good morning to you 10 fair maids.' 'Sir, you mistake [sic]' said one of them, 'We are not 10 but if we were twice as many more as we are we should be as many above 10 as we are now under.' How many were they?"

I'm writing to let you know that the book arrived safely yesterday. I also wanted to thank you for your very professional and awesome packaging job. It's so nice to know that some people do care when packaging vintage and antique books for their customers (I say this because I've had some bad experiences recently with some other book dealers who did a miserable job of packaging a book from 1824). Best, -V.W.
