Item #220988 Autographed Note Signed. Emile Charles PICARD, 1856 - 1941.

Autographed Note Signed

Paris: 1925.

A rather cryptic and uncommon autographed note signed, 1 page, 5 x 4 inches, in the form of a card with a small photograph added, Paris, June 14, 1925, in French but translated: "My expression of deep sympathy for the Republic of Uruguay, a friend of France." Fine full signature adding "The Academy of France, Tenured Secretary of the Academy of Sciences." Note: It's a mystery as to why Picard sent this card to his friend in Uruguay, as there is no record of political instability or of a natural disaster when sent. Excellent condition.

French mathematician and only the fifteenth member to occupy seat No. 1 at the Academie Francaise in 1924. He made important contributions to applied mathematics, including the theories of telegraphy and elasticity.
