Description: Map. Large format lithograph with original hand outline color. Image measures 18.75" x 22.25".

Comments: Beautiful and simple map of the southern portion of the Malay Peninsula. Malacca served as an important European base during the heyday of the spice trade. This map shows the Strait of Singapore and the region containing Kuala Lumpur, though neither city is named. Minor toning and chipping along bottom edge, minor offsetting. From Vandermaelen's 6 volume "Atlas universel de geographie physique, politique, statistique et mineralogique, sur l'echelle...". Can be combined as gores to form an immense globe. The atlas was the first to map the world on a uniform scale.

Thanks for the note. I'm actually in NY for a few days and was hoping to get there but have to head back tomorrow. I've been stopping by the Argosy for over 60 years starting when my mother would take me there after shopping at Bloomingdale's and lunch at a long gone restaurant on the east side of Lexington between 58th and 59th that was torn down to make way for Alexander's department store; that is gone too, of course. - Peter H.
