Description: Partly printed document signed, 1 page, 13 x 7.5 inches, State of Connecticut, February 16, 1789. This document served as a notice to the Sheriff of the County of Litchfield, advising him: "Mr. Charles Burnell, who was constable of the Town of Canaan - in the County of Littlefield and Collector of the State Taxes for said Town of Canaan - in the year 1789 has neglected to make payment of the three penny tax payable the first day of January in the said year the law requires, amounting to the sum of one hundred and seventy-one pounds three shilling, three pence." Signed by Huntington as Treasurer. Uneven toning and a weak center fold; very good(-) condition.

Comments: Revolutionary War General who served as a member of the court-martial that tried Gen. Charles Lee, and sat on the military board that tried British spy Major John Andre.
