Comments: The "Manuals of the Corporation" were directories of extensive historical and contemporary records of New York compiled by D.T. Valentine. These books include detailed information on the meetings of the Aldermen Council, ordinances passed, public officials, the city's debts, directories of hospitals, alms houses and schools, ferry schedules, lists of public porters, demographics and census information, and descriptions of historic buildings and streets. Much of the information was gleaned from Dutch and English sources, as processed by Valentine. Notable illustrations in this edition include "New-York. Taken from Fort Columbus, Governors Island. 1816" (expert repair), "View of Market Slip taken from the Corner of Cherry St-1859", "Hudson River from Hoboken", "the Five Points in 1859", "3rd Avenue Rail Road Depot, N.Y. 1860", "Old Houses corner Pearl & Elm St." and "Lispenard's Meadows. Taken from the site of the present St. Nicohlas Hotel, Broadway. Drawn by A. Anderson, 1785". Maps include "Map of the City & County of New York. 1860", "Plan of the Central Park, City of New York, 1860", "Map of the Five Cities of New York, Brooklyn, Jersey City, Hoboken & Hudson...1860", "[Facsimile of a survey of Turtle Bay Farm] Performed ye 16th May 1771 By Frans. Marshalk" and "[Map of the State of New York engraved on a soldier's powder-horn". D.T. Valentine (1801-1869) served as the Deputy to the Clerk of the Common Council for thirty-seven years without being promoted to Clerk. Valentine took it upon himself to compile the "Manuals", which he updated and published annually from 1841-1866. Many copies were personalized for prominent officials. This compendium is an excellent source of early New York City history.

Unless you request otherwise, maps and prints are always packed flat with plenty of protective cardboard. The cost for UPS is $15.00.

Overseas Shipping:
All packages sent Airmail via DHL, TNT, FED-EX, or USPS. Fees are based on our actual costs, determined by the weight, size and final destination of your package. We will select the least expensive method, but the average cost is between $15 and $40. We will contact you for approval ONLY IF the shipping cost is greater than $40.

Warranty & Returns:
Items may be returned, within five days of receipt, if our description was inaccurate. Please notify us before returning anything, and make sure the items are carefully packed.
