Landmark work on orthodontics. Two classical treatises by the pioneering London dental surgeon. Fox was first to give explicit directions for correcting dental irregularities as well as instructions for various surgical procedures. Weinberger, History of Dentristry, Vol. I; pp. 340-4. In 1799 Joseph Fox, pupil of John Hunter, received the appointment of dental surgeon to Guy's Hospital, the first hospital to add a dental surgeon to its staff, and the first to institute a special course of dental lectures.
