Description: 9.75 x 8 inches, New York, no date, circa 1953 -- a scarce vintage photo taken by James J. Kriegmann with a "Shaw Artists, 565 Fifth Ave. N.Y.C." imprint on the lower right. Inscribed on the left side: "To Charles + Dorothy, Love + Thank you + Always, Ruth Brown." This is one of the earliest Ruth Brown images photographed by Kriegsmann. The top white margin has been removed, leaving a rough edge; two faint creases in the bottom border. Very good(-) condition.

Comments: American R&B singer discovered by Cab Calloway. She had a series of hits in the early 1950s including "So Long "Teardrops from my eyes" and "(Mama) He Treats Your Daughter Mean." For those contributions, Atlantic Records became known as "The house that Ruth built."

Your beautifully wrapped package of books -- two copies of "Journal in the Night" -- arrived at my door this morning and made my day! A thousand thanks for the care you took, first to find them, and then to send them as you did, all done up with tissue paper to boot. It was like Christmas in June AND it was my first experience buying books on the Internet. All the best to you, and perhaps our paths will cross again. - Janet B.
