Amsterdam: 1971.

Elephant folio bird print. Color offset lithograph. Page measures 26.5" x 39.5".

Beautiful print of cuckoos from first facsimile edition. This edition, which was published from the original plates 135 years after their creation, recreates the entire set of 435 images in their original double elephant folio format. The model for these images was an original set of Havell engravings, provided by Teyler's Museum in Haarlem, Holland. Paper bears the authenticating watermark. Audubon (1785-1851) was an American naturalist, painter and ornithologist. One of the most famous American natural history artists, Audubon did extensive field work studying birds before painting them. Please visit our gallery for more Audubon prints.
