Description: 2 pages, legal folio, 12.5 x 8 inches, New York City, March 13, 1790. This document is a transfer of land from a soldier who served in the Continental Army, completely in the hand of John Ray, in part: "...Know ye that Charles McKinney, private in the 2nd New York Regiment, commanded by Col. Phillip Van Cortlandt, in the service of the United States...for the consideration of the sum of eight pounds, New York Currency...transfers to Peter Hughes, for my service in the Army...during the war with Great Britain...the parcel granted [herein]." Evidently, Charles McKinney was selling land he received as a stipend for his services during the war, but could not afford to keep it. Peter Hughes is said to have acquired great wealth by buying such parcels at a pittance. Evenly toned with some weakness at the center fold; otherwise very good condition.

I must confess that one of the best parts of any trip I make to NYC is to visit your bookstore and be received with such kindness. Today I had two big pleasures: Argosy and Renne Flemming's performance... If I have time on this trip I will again pass by your store again, otherwise I will contact you from Brazil. Best regards, - Eduardo
