Description: 1 page, 11 x 8.5 inches, New York City, May 9, 1977. Written to an adoring fan, in part: "...The catalyst which prompts most people to write is usually the discovery of an error in the drawing and so I am indeed grateful for your positive response to my designs...and I shall follow your advice and place a numeral after my signature on future TV Guide covers...unfortunately they have a finished painting of Johnny Carson being readied and it is too late to incorporate your eminently sensible idea into its design..." Boldly signed "Hirschfeld" with a handwritten postscript at the end: "People Magazine Issue May 16th - out today has copy on my show in St. Louis last week." Includes the original postmarked envelope. Usual folds plus a small, faint stain near the lower left corner; still very good condition.

Comments: Hirschfeld hid the name of his daughter, Nina, in most of the drawings he produced since her birth in 1945. Sometimes "Nina" would show up more than once and Hirschfeld would helpfully add the number next to his signature.

The Easton Press Rubens and Dali have just arrived in England - posted on 15th January and arrived here on 17th January. The books are splendid, but how you get out the shipping so quickly I am at a loss to understand! But many thanks - Roger F.
