Description: Excellent content, 1 page, oblong 8vo, 5.25 x 8.25 inches, "Festival de Prades" letterhead, Prades, April 30, 1954. Written in French to Nancy MacDonald, Director of the Spanish Refugee aid Committee, and translated here, in part: "...I found very interesting your idea to send a circular...but I prefer either the Spanish Refugee Agency or if you want my name as President of Honor...send the circular. I understand your difficulties in getting to Prades during the Festival...but it would be a great joy for me to see you..." Near fine condition.

Comments: Spanish classical musician and conductor, considered one of the greatest cellists of the 20th century. Casals was an ardent supporter of the Spanish Republican Government and after its defeat in 1939, he vowed not to return to Spain until Democracy was restored. Though in self-exile after the failure of the Republican Government in 1939, Casals spent the rest of his life raising money and aid for dissidents opposed to the Franco Regime.

Many thanks for your help... Over the years I have spent many happy hours at the Argosy - mostly among your old maps. Whenever we have taken a trip, we have bought an old map of the country or area to remind us of where we've been. We have a whole wall of maps from the Argosy. As well as a number of your small prints of areas in the USA. They make wonderful presents for friends and family too - also some of your older books on special subjects. So you can see I am a big fan of the Argosy! - Katherine M.
