Description: 2 pages (front and back), 6 x 4 inches, South Hampstead, January 5, 1889, in part: "...Our mutual friend Mr. Walt tells me you might be interested to see my studio and what work is going on. If you are disengaged on Thursday night and could dine with me at 7 o clock - I would ask Walt and McClure to join." One horizontal fold; very good condition.

Comments: Scottish-born artist best known for his paintings of historical and literary subjects. Because of his untimely death at the age of 53, Pettie letters seldom come to market.

Thanks for the note. I'm actually in NY for a few days and was hoping to get there but have to head back tomorrow. I've been stopping by the Argosy for over 60 years starting when my mother would take me there after shopping at Bloomingdale's and lunch at a long gone restaurant on the east side of Lexington between 58th and 59th that was torn down to make way for Alexander's department store; that is gone too, of course. - Peter H.
