Description: 4 pages (front and back), 12.75 x 8.25 inches, Auburn, New York, 1809. In this document, Hughes reaffirms his ownership of a parcel of land he purchased from "Charles McKinney of the 2nd New York Regiment, commanded by Col. Phillip Van Cortlandt, for the consideration of 8 pounds...by Peter Hughes." Spotting and foxing; several closed tears. Good condition.

Comments: Hughes amassed tremendous holdings of New York real estate through collusion, literally waiting for Revolutionary War veterans to enter Debtor's Court. Exceptional example of the land-grab period that deprived veterans of valuable real property, surrendered to the wealthy.

Your beautifully wrapped package of books -- two copies of "Journal in the Night" -- arrived at my door this morning and made my day! A thousand thanks for the care you took, first to find them, and then to send them as you did, all done up with tissue paper to boot. It was like Christmas in June AND it was my first experience buying books on the Internet. All the best to you, and perhaps our paths will cross again. - Janet B.
