Description: 4 pages (front and back), 12.75 x 8.25 inches, Auburn, New York, 1809. In this document, Hughes reaffirms his ownership of a parcel of land he purchased from "Charles McKinney of the 2nd New York Regiment, commanded by Col. Phillip Van Cortlandt, for the consideration of 8 Peter Hughes." Spotting and foxing; several closed tears. Good condition.

Comments: Hughes amassed tremendous holdings of New York real estate through collusion, literally waiting for Revolutionary War veterans to enter Debtor's Court. Exceptional example of the land-grab period that deprived veterans of valuable real property, surrendered to the wealthy.
