A Letter of State (No. 174), 4to, 2 pages, Department of State letterhead, June 19, 1918, to the Ambassador of Peru, attempting to expedite negotiations between the two countries regarding the use of German ships which have been trapped in Peruvian ports, in part: "...for the use of these ships...negotiations should be carried out in Lima...will send at once a representative of the United States Shipping Board to Peru...am confident an agreement can be reached as to the use of the vessels which will be satisfactory to both governments..." Also included is a one-page typed letter signed, 4to, on Dept. of State letterhead, February 13, 1920, declining an application to grant permission for a married couple to emigrate to the United States, in part: "...the Department's previous decision, refusing to grant Mr. and Mrs. Hahn permission to come to the United States, cannot be changed. I might suggest...they renew their applications after the Peace Treaty shall have become effective between the United States and Germany." Both items are in very good condition.
