Description: Map. Uncolored engraving. Image measures 30" x 41.25".
Comments: Beautiful and very rare map of the Continental United States, Mexico and Central America. In great detail, showing railroads, time change comparisons and geographical features. Insets include the North Pole, the Railroads of New England and Eastern New York, and the Railroads from the Middle Atlantic Ports to the Mississippi River. The map and its information continue to edges of page, there is no border. All maps created by J.H. Goldthwait, an American engraver of 100 Nassau Street in New York. On the back is a plan of Boston (29.25" x 22.5"), printed 1866 by the United States Map, Chart, Portrait & Print Manufactory of 141 Fulton & 20 Ann Street New York. Seemingly unrelated, these two maps are printed back to back, but the faint presence of a list pertaining to extent and population in the margins of the verso suggests this page was used as a blotter. Map has been professionally cleaned and restored. Overall wear, minor creases and scattered smudges. Chip to upper left corner. Several tears around edges have all been professionally repaired. Staining to lower right corner.Binding: unbound
Condition: very good
