Description: 3 pages (front and back) with each two-page spread measuring 8.25 x 10.5 inches, Wall Street, New York, December 14, 1872. Written to Secretary of State Hamilton Fish, in part: "...the appointment of a new U.S. District Attorney for this district is likely to come under consideration with the President immediately upon the legislation of Judge Davis. I take the liberty of invoking your influence in favor of Mr. Joshua M. Van Cott who by his very great services to the profession and the community in the matter of the impeachment of the corrupt judges is entitled to great consideration..." Docketed on the back by Hamilton Fish. Several folds, but still in very good(+) condition.
