Comments: Rare folding map of Montana. Delineates counties, Indian reservations and various mines. Includes inset of the northwestern United States showing railroad lines from Wisconsin and Illinois to Washington and Oregon. Shows path taken by Cook and Folsom in 1869 around what became Yellowstone National Park. Beautiful burnished gold coat of arms with the words "Ich dien", German for "I serve", the motto used by the Prince of Wales. Booklet is detached and unhinged. Travel directions have been pasted into back cover. In ink is written "stolen from H.D.H." referring to the ink signature on verso of map: H.D. Hauser, Fort Ellis MT. Fort Ellis is shown in the center of the map in Bozeman, near the Crow Reservation. H.D. Hauser was brother to Samuel T. Hauser who, as a pioneer and explorer, was active in the founding of Yellowstone Park and ruled Montana Territory as governor from 1885-1886. Some overall wear and staining to original folds. Expert repairs and a few fill ins to folds. Some scattered staining from original glue.Edition: Second
