Description: Architectural print. Uncolored copper plate engraving. Image measures 12.75" x 8 7/8".

Comments: Engraving of a work, designed by the Venetian Andreas Palladio (1508-1580), whose architecture is characterized by its symmetry and balance, influenced by the classical design of Ancient Greece and Rome. Giacomo Leoni (1686-1746) was also an architect from Venice, though he worked for most of his life in England. Greatly inspired by Palladio's neo-classical restraint, Leoni sought to incorporate this simplicity of design with the prevailing Baroque trends of ornamentation. Leoni republished Palladio's "I Quattro Libri dell'Architettura" in English (circa 1715) which helped to popularize Palladio's style abroad. This particular print comes from the later French edition of this popular publication. Minor aging along edges and minor scattered foxing. Please visit our gallery for more Leoni prints.

Dear Sir, I received two autographed letters yesterday, much faster than I expected! I'm a fan of Anne Morrow Lindbergh and I happened to find this item when I was browsing her books... The letters look great and I'm very happy to read her own writing in my hand. Thank you very much for your great business. - Toshihiko Hori
