Famous for their melodious songs, the lark is seen in side profile by a river. Minor wear and aging along edges. Mark Catesby (1683-1749), was an English naturalist who studied the flora and fauna of the New World. Between 1729 and 1747, Catesby published his Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands, the first published account of the flora and fauna of North America. Johann Michael Seligmann (1720%u20131762) was a German artist and engraver best known for his ornithological artwork (Collection of various foreign and rare birds) circa 1751, which included plates based on the works of Mark Catesby and George Edwards.
