Description: An impassioned and violently accusatory correspondence sparked by the CBS Playhouse 90 production of "In the Presence of Mine Enemies," concerning the Warsaw Ghetto teleplay by Rod Serling, which was viewed by Uris "with total disbelief and revulsion at what I considered to be the most disgusting dramatic presentation in the history of American television...It could not have been a more perfect piece of Nazi apologetics if it had been produced by Joseph Goebbels..." This archive includes five main items, including: (1) a typed copy of a telegram that Uris sent on May 19, 1960, to CBS president Frank Stanton; (2) Stanton's original reply -- a one-page typed letter signed, 11 x 8.5 inches, on CBS letterhead on May 20, 1960; (3) the seven-page working copy of the letter Uris sent in response, 11 x 8.5 inches, heavily penciled and corrected in red by Uris himself; (4) a final/revised carbon of the letter that Uris actually sent to Stanton on June 1, 1960; (5) a carbon of a four-page letter Uris sent in response to Rod Serling on June 13, 1960. (Serling's original letter not included.) Several newspaper clippings are enclosed with the archive. The two original items in this archive -- Stanton's letter and Uris's draft -- are both in very good condition.

Howdy and Happy Fourth of July. Just want to let you know that the Dick Grace book came. A nice copy, as promised. Grace was quite a fellow: the only person I ever heard of who crashed planes for a living and died of old age. I was in The Argosy once, years ago, 1997 or so. Hope to get in again one of these days, but NYC is a long way from here. Thanks again for helping me out with this. Best - Bob H.
