Chili
London: Cadell & Davies, 1815.
Map. Engraving with original hand coloring. Image measures 27.5" x 19.75".
Beautiful map of Chile. Includes inset of Isola de Tierra, the easternmost island of the Juan Fernandes chain. Some offsetting. John Pinkerton (1758-1826) was a prominent Scottish mapmaker known for his large and impeccably detailed maps. In this manner, his work marks a turning point from the earlier emphasis on decoration toward a greater emphasis on information. His "Modern Atlas" is one of the best British atlases of the period and is a fine example of his work.
