Description: 2 pages, 9 x 7.25 inches, Fort Fidelis, May 7, 1794. In this letter, Staats Morris writes to his brother Lewis (signer of the Declaration of Independence) upon the receipt of terrible news, in part: "...Your letter containing the unwelcome tidings of the death of dear mother came to hand a few days past...and since my birth no circumstances ever occurred that so much shocked me... S. Morris." Natural folds and a small tear on back page; still very good condition.
