Comments: Author was one of the under-secretaries of state for the colonies. "He went to America in 1774, accompanied the British army from 1776 to 1778..." DNB XVII, p. 1192. During his stay in New York City he travelled to a farm. He writes of his conversation with a slave he met there. The slave was literate and read the Bible. The author writes mostly on his and the slave's views on the Bible and religion. This edition not in Shoemaker. Library Company of Philadelphia, Afro- Americana 9284.
