Comments: Philibert, le Comte de Grammont (1621-1707) was an infamous libertine and scoundrel. After Louis XIV exiled hime from France (for certain amorous transgressions) he found himself at large in the English Court of Charles II. Towards the end of his life he regaled Count Anthony Hamilton with tales of his various escapades and scandals. Hamilton used this material as the basis for these alleged memoirs. The book was highly entertaining, well-written, and had enormous popularity in its day.
