Graciously written by the Union general on behalf of two friends seeking business introductions, in part: "...Both are young gentlemen of good intelligence, amiable, &, as I am fully persuaded, trustworthy and honorable. I ought to add that Mr. Gardiner has also been in commercial business both in Cuba & Mexico. In the latter country he lost, by the war, his earnings of several years..." Natural folds and several creases; still very good condition.
