Description: 1 page, 10 x 8 inches, Washington, D.C., June 2, 1877. Rare document signed in full by the Department of Indian Affairs, commissioned by John Q. Smith, authorizing John Thompson and Co. to trade with the Sioux Indians confined to the Standing Rock Reservation. In part: "Enclosed is a (copy of) license granted to John Thompson & Co. to trade with the Blackfoot, Uncpapa, Upper & Lower Yanktonais tribes of Indians for one year from June 22nd, 1877..." Includes a tiny photograph tin of John Q. Smith, blackened on the left corner. Two punch holes and a stain in the left margin; slight tears along the natural folds. Good condition.
