Description: 20 volumes. Frontispiece protected by tissue in 13 of the volumes. 12mo, handsomely bound in contemporary 3/4 blue calf over marbled boards; ornate gilt-stamped spines; marbled endpapers and page edges. London: Chapman and Hall & George Routledge, (no date). Various editions, all uniformly bound. A near fine set.

Comments: Lever's novels vary from the earlier Irish and military extravaganzas to the 1860's studies of common Irish life and manners. A contemporary of Dickens, Lever was considered a brilliant and amusing novelist, with a humor which poked fun at his own people. Many of his works were first published in series and then assembled into books.

Thanks for the note. I'm actually in NY for a few days and was hoping to get there but have to head back tomorrow. I've been stopping by the Argosy for over 60 years starting when my mother would take me there after shopping at Bloomingdale's and lunch at a long gone restaurant on the east side of Lexington between 58th and 59th that was torn down to make way for Alexander's department store; that is gone too, of course. - Peter H.
