The portrait of Toussaint Louverture is based on a painting of him from the collection of his son, Isaac. The painting was painted by a contemporary of Louverture and is considered by Isaac to be a realistic portrait of his father. This portrait is one of the few portraits published that is an accurate portrayal of Toussaint Louverture.
