Description: Volume I (all printed). Illustrated with 15 full-page engraved plates (small stamp on title page; scattered foxing). [4], 72pp. of text. Thin 4to, contemporary marbled boards with modern calf spine and corners. Cambridge: J. Burges, 1796. First edition.

Comments: First edition of the author's projected course (a synopsis of which was published in 1787). With an extra advertisement loosely laid in, indicating the intended completion of the work in 2 volumes of 5 fasicules each. Only the first fasicule was published. Harwood was a professor of anatomy at Cambridge, and an early developer of blood transfusion techniques. A signature on top edge of title page belongs to John Heaviside, a contemporary Cambridge anatomist and owner of an extensive and valuable anatomical collection, now preserved in the British Museum. Scarce. OCLC lists only 10 copies, including those at Yale, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, National Library of Medicine, and Wellcome Institute.

I want to thank you for your excellent service. I telephoned to inquire about the availability of a book this past Wednesday morning. Michele informed me it was available and took my order at about 11 AM EST. The next day when I got home from work, I was astounded to find that the book had been delivered in the early afternoon -- less than 30 hours after the order. Now, I know that UPS deserves some credit, but such fast delivery would not have occurred if Michele (and perhaps others) had not worked extremely efficiently. The book was well packed and fully meets my expectations, and Michele even got my name right! You have demonstrated a level of service I hope all merchants would meet. Thanks again. - Guy Hasegawa
