Description: 1 page, 11 x 8.5 inches, New York, February 16, 1954. In this letter, the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright gives a serious reply to a viewer's reaction to a teleplay, in part: "...I have had other letters from intelligent people like yourself who were disturbed by the word 'average' and I can only conclude that I failed in the dialogue to make my intention clear. I meant that when you think have discovered somebody who can reasonably be called 'average' you find qualities that are truly exceptional..."
