Description: 2 pages (front and back), 8 x 5 inches, London, October 20, 1899. Written to Elbridge T. Gerry, regretting that he wasn't able to see him and thanking him for a gift, in full: "I was surprised to find you were sailing on Wednesday. I thought you were to go tomorrow and had relied on seeing you again. The cigars came to hand in one form and if they prove to be as fine as they look as no doubt they will I shall console some homesick hours by thinking of you. Many thanks...Be good to Mrs. Rice while I'm away." Natural fold; browning on the lower left corner. Very good(-) condition.
