The author, professor of medicine and then chemistry at the University of Erlangen, is best known for his book Anfangsgrunde der dynamischen Naturlehre (1807), "one of the most complete applications in the first decade of the nineteenth century of Kant's ideas on the dynamics of chemical and physical phenomena."
