Description: Title vignette, 26 half-page engravings and decorative woodcut vignettes and initials throughout. 419pp + 4pp table. Small 8vo, old mottled calf with gilt spine, leather spine label (bottom piece of spine end missing, lacks frontispiece and half-title, corners bumped). Amstelodami: Abrahamum a Someren, 1692. A very good copy, with pages quite clean and bright.

Comments: This work, first published in 1521, established the new literary genre of Marconic verse. The longest piece in the work is a fantastical story in which a prince and his cohorts meet their doom inside a giant pumpkin, where such "liars" as poets, philosophers, etc. are tortured by such methods as diabolical dentistry. Brunet 1319. Brunet notes that this edition may have been published in Naples.

Thanks for the note. I'm actually in NY for a few days and was hoping to get there but have to head back tomorrow. I've been stopping by the Argosy for over 60 years starting when my mother would take me there after shopping at Bloomingdale's and lunch at a long gone restaurant on the east side of Lexington between 58th and 59th that was torn down to make way for Alexander's department store; that is gone too, of course. - Peter H.
