The best translation of Aetius is the present one by Janus Cornarius of all 16 books. The Tetrabiblion is a principal authority for what we know of the work of Rufus of Ephesus and Leonides in surgery, Soranus and Philumenus in gynecology and obstetrics. The work contains the best account of diesases of the eye, ear, nose, throat and teeth in the literature in antiquity. In this work is also to be found Aetius' own orignal work on the treatment of aneurysm by ligation of the brachial artery above the sac. Aetius was physician to the Byzantine court of Justinian.
